Know Her Story, Know Our OMISuperhuman

Sinha once boarded a Padmavati Express train from Lucknow and traveled to Delhi in April 2011 for an examination to join CISF (Central Industrial Security Force). She was pushed out of that train by thugs while snatching her bag and gold chain. As soon as she fell on the other track, another train on the parallel track came and crushed her leg below the knees; after that, she was rushed to the hospital where she lost her legs as doctors amputated her legs to save her life along with severe leg and pelvic injuries.

On the 18th, she was brought to the All India Institute for medical sciences for further treatment, and after four months, she was provided with a prosthetic leg.

Even while being treated, she solved how she could climb Mount Everest; her dream was to hoist Indian National Flag on the continent’s highest peak. Until 2014 she had successfully climbed seven mountains.

Her Mount Everest Journey!

She was inspired by Cricketer Yuvraj Singh (who successfully battled cancer) and other Television shows; later, she connected with Bachendri Pal- The First Indian Woman to climb Mount Everest in 2011 and told her everything on which Bachendri Pal told Arunima that ‘You decided to climb Mount Everest in this situation with a prosthetic leg, you have climbed Mount Everest already now just the date is remaining to the world to know!’

Afterwards, she joined an introductory mountaineering course at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and Tata Steel adventure (TSAF) in Uttarkashi. Anurima climbed Island Peak (6150 meters) in preparation for Scaling Everest. Later, Anurima and Susan Mahout (USAF), Instructor under the guidance of Hendrick Pal, started their Mount Everest Trek.

Of Course, this wasn’t an easy journey. After so much Hard Work, dedication, belief and patience, Arunima Sinha finally reached the top of Mount Everest at 10:55 am on 21 May 2013, becoming the first female amputee to scale Mount Everest. It took 52 days to reach the summit.
