In a recent trial done in NewYork’s Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Centre using a drug named Dostarlimab the rectal cancer disappeared after immunotherapy — without the need for the standard treatments of radiation, surgery, or chemotherapy — and the cancer has not returned in any of the patients.
In the trial there were 18 patients and one patient was from Indian Origin. These patients were given Dostarlimab drug for 6 months and later everyone’s tumours disappeared. This is the first time in the history of cancer. According to experts Dostarlimab is a drug with laboratory-produced molecules in it, which acts as a substitute antibodies in human bodies.
The best part is cancer has not returned in any patients who have been free for upto 2 years. This was the first time that all the patients were completely healed with medication without any serious side effects. At this time of trial no patients have received Chemoradiotheraphy or undergone surgery and no cases of progression or recurrence was reported.
This brought tears of happiness! Afterall its a biggest achievement for medical science!
