Grandmother of Irular students to head the School Panel in Tamil Nadu

Looking forward to the appreciable performance of the two Irular girls- Meenakshi (18) and Kamatchi (17) in Tamil Nadu, their school headmaster A Senguttunan and other teachers appointed the girl’s grandmother Selvi as the head of the School Management Committee that comprises 20 members.
Selvi, a 50-year-old woman, was given the responsibility after grandchildren- Meenakshi and Kamatchi cracked the exam under the National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme to avail Rs 12,000 per annum.
Selvi belongs to the SC Community and was widowed at the age of 21. She wasn’t educated but sent all her children to school to gain an education.
In an interview, the school headmaster said they chose Selvi for the committee head position because her grandchildren made the school proud by clearing the NMMS exam. Also, her contribution to the growth of the school is impressive.
